Last year, an EMBA group from Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management had a business tour in China. During the seven-day trip in China, those EMBA students visited two enterprises, met senior administrators, and joined four workshops. Here is the whole story of their trip.

Enterprises visited:

    1 China Life Insurance Company (CLIC Group)
    China Life Insurance Company, with assets of over 220 billion yuan, is one of the biggest insurance companies in China. It provides over 100 kinds of insurance services and owns 150 million policyholders. Its revenue in 2002 was over 100 billion yuan. It is also the biggest investor in Chinese money market.

    2 China ChengTong Group (CCG Group)
    The main business of ChengTong Group is modern logistics. It is the biggest retail trader of nonferrous metal and steels in China. The yearly sales volume in average is above 2,000,000 tons. It has senior logistics management and qualified operational personnel with international knowledge and strong practical working experience. The main logistics customers of the Group include: Haier, Aucma, Chonghong, Konka, LG, Dupont, BOL, Donnelley, Dulux, etc.

Workshops:

    We arranged four workshops. The attendees included:
  • EMBA students and teachers from Pepperdine University;
  • Senior officers from Chinese enterprises;
  • Chinese MBA and EMBA students.
    The topics were different:
  • Workshop A: Designing and Managing Headquarter-Subsidiary Relationships
  • Workshop B: Real World Application in Change Management
  • Workshop C: Appreciative Inquiry: Honoring the Past to Create a Better Future
  • Workshop D: Develop Alliance Based Strategies
